Some of my favorite nonprofit organizations that I'm personally involved & supported:

Hands On Bay Area - www.HandsOnBayArea.org  - a non-profit group of thousands of volunteers from all around the San Francisco Bay area - organize "done-in-a-day" volunteer projects of all kinds from cooking for the homeless to helping the shelters & much more.

San Francisco Food Bank - San Francisco Food Bank is the only second food bank in Northern California that supports & distributes food to other 500 nonprofit organizations of all kind, from senior programs to homeless, from hungers to low income family, from soup kitchens to youth programs, shelters & other community services.

They collect all kind of food & donations from packers, manufacturers, the USDA and grocery stores. They then truck donated food to their warehouse. Volunteers like us will come in daily to sort, repack and shelve almost 300 tons of food at our warehouse every week. At any given time, they have around 2 million pounds of food at the food bank. In all, San Francisco Food Bank serves over 135,000 people each year.

Due to this recession economy, they only have half of the donation compare to the previous year. It's really sad to see it. What that translates to is less food for senior, homeless, youth, shelters & those that need it the most.

East Meets West - www.eastmeetswest.org - The mission of the East Meets West Foundation is to partner with the people of Vietnam to build a peaceful and prosperous future. Currently the largest non governmental organization (NGO) working in Vietnam today, EMW has built a reputation of implementing high quality programs and projects that make a lasting impact on thousands of children and families living in poverty.
